Need to stretch your cow’s milk supply? When milk supply is running short, or it's worth more in the Vat, Sprayfo calf milk replacer can top up the volume you feed. Mixed at the recommended rate, it blends with liquid whole milk to give you more litres to go round.
This is about increasing volume, not fortifying.
You are not adding extra powder to cow’s milk, rather mix Sprayfo with water first to create reconstituted calf milk replacer, then combine the two milks.
Why it works.
Sprayfo milk replacers suit this job well. These products can be mixed with liquid whole milk, dissolve easily even in cold water and stay in suspension.
Early on (when calves are under four weeks of age), Sprayfo Delta or Vitesse are ideal – these products being closer to whole milk.
Sprayfo Blue is a good option from week four - when you want calves to start eating more hard feed, or you’re trying to stimulate weaning.
How to mix Sprayfo with whole milk:
Use clean water. Heat it to 40 to 42°C, or use cold water for ad-lib systems.
With half the required water volume in the mixer, add Sprayfo powder, then add the remaining required water while stirring.
Mix for 30 to 60 seconds until all clumps disappear. Sprayfo mixes very easily, so take care not to over-mix – if it appears frothy, you have likely over-mixed it.
Add your milk to the reconstituted Sprayfo and stir through.
Get the ratio right.
Recommended ratios: 135-150g/L.
To make 1 litre, add 135g of Sprayfo powder to 865mL of water. Need 20 litres of Sprayfo to add to your whole milk? That’s 2.7kg of powder and 17.3 litres of water.
Stick to the recommendations above. Sprayfo powders are formulated to be fed at these ratios for the right nutrient balance, digestion and animal health. Mixing stronger than recommended raises osmolality, which can upset digestion and increase the risk of scours.
Make changes gradually.
If you are changing the proportion of whole milk to Sprayfo, or lifting the total daily volume, make the change over 2-4 days so calves can adjust. Make sure calves have clean drinking water in their pens at all times.
